PARIS — Lancôme has signed on two leading ladies — actresses Juliette Binoche and Laura Morante — to be the ambassadors of its Rénergie and Absolue skin care lines, respectively, WWD has learned.
France’s Binoche has been in films by acclaimed directors including Louis Malle, Jean-Luc Godard and Michael Haneke. She’s worked alongside big-name actors such as Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Richard Gere, and won a best-supporting actress Oscar for her role in “The English Patient,” making Binoche just the second French woman to receive the prize.
Binoche’s films this year include “Another Kind of Silence,” “The Other Man,” “L’Heure d’été” and “Paris.” She’s also going back to the stage this year for a performance, including singing, dancing and acting, which will travel the globe.
Binoche is no stranger to Lancôme, having once been a muse for the L’Oréal-owned brand’s Poême fragrance, which was launched in fall 1995.
“It’s an immense pleasure for Lancôme to work with Juliette Binoche again,” said Odile Roujol, managing director of Lancôme International, in a statement expected to be released today. “Her career choices, her natural and moving beauty, her independent spirit and generosity epitomize the values essential to our brand.”
Italy’s Morante, Lancôme’s other new ambassador, has worked with top directors such as Giuseppe and Bernardo Bertolucci, Nanni Moretti and Gianni Amelio. Also a stage and screen actress, her most recent projects include “Falsa Pista” and “The Anarchist’s Wife,” which are due out this year.
“Laura Morante is an exceptional and passionate woman,” said Roujol. “Her intelligence, charm and elegance bestow her with a special presence. We are honored to welcome her as ambassador for the Absolue treatment range.”
Binoche and Morante will appear in advertisements created by Nick Knight. They are the second and third actress-cum-spokesmodels to be signed on by Lancôme so far this year. Earlier this month, the brand announced its nomination of Anne Hathaway as a Lancôme ambassador and face of a new women’s fragrance due out in September.
In 2007, Lancôme inked deals with numerous silver-screen celebrities, including Kate Winslet, as the face of its Trésor women’s scent, and Clive Owen, to front its Lancôme Men treatment line.
