Beauty’s boldest names were in a celebratory mood this fall, celebrating some major milestones in back-to-back galas at Cipriani on 42nd Street. In late October, the Avon Foundation held its 10th Anniversary Awards Gala, raising $2.2 million for women’s causes and bringing the gala’s fund-raising total to more than $20 million over the last decade, according to chairman and chief executive officer Andrea Jung. Jung was joined on the red carpet by Avon spokespeople Reese Witherspoon, who said her red-carpet secret is “laughing and having a good time” while leaving the coiffing and makeup to the experts, and model Christy Turlington Burns, who is the face of Avon’s upcoming scent, Slip Into…. Later, actor and Avon fragrance front man Patrick Dempsey revealed he’s not fond of an overly made-up look. But once he was out of earshot, his wife, makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, whispered, “I love a smoky eye.” The following week, WWD celebrated its 100th anniversary with a blowout bash, attracting everyone from Leonard and Evelyn Lauder to Marc Jacobs to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Of course, there were a bevy of beauties as well, including Estée Lauder models Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski and Lancôme’s Arlenis Sosa. But the real highlight was supermodel-turned-chanteuse Karen Elson’s electrifying rendition of Happy Birthday. As WWD wrote the next day, “There was a watercooler filled with the ‘WWD 100-Proof Punch.’ But it really wasn’t necessary, since it seemed most guests had drunk the Kool-Aid long ago.”
