Talia Castellano — the charismatic 13-year-old who dispensed makeup tips on YouTube and became an honorary Cover Girl of the Procter & Gamble brand, even while battling leukemia — died Tuesday morning.
Her Facebook page, Angels for Talia, posted, “It is with a heavy heart that we share with all of you that Talia has earned her wings at 11:22 a.m.”
The Procter & Gamble Co.-owned Cover Girl brand helped the teenager achieve a dream by making her an honorary Cover Girl during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last fall.
Ellen DeGeneres tweeted on Tuesday, “This year I met a very special girl, and today we lost her. Sending my heart to Talia’s family. I’m so sad.”
P&G also tweeted words of sympathy: “Talia Castellano was the meaning of a true Cover Girl. Please join me in sending love and honoring her memory.”
In her last YouTube video, posted on May 22, Castellano told viewers she had been in the hospital for four weeks for pain management, but hoped to “back in the groove of videos” soon, as she’d been talking with “loads and loads of different companies and brands about doing reviews and giveaways.”
“We are honored to have known Talia and grateful for all the ways she showed us what true beauty means. She inspired millions with her strength, personality and talent. Talia has touched our Cover Girl family forever, and we’re thankful to have been a part of her life,” said Esi Eggleston Bracey, vice president and general manager of Cover Girl Cosmetics. “Our heart goes out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”
