L’Oréal Makes R&I Appointment

Martha Crawford will join the French beauty giant on Oct. 1.

PARIS — L’Oréal has made a key appointment in its research and innovation team.

Martha Crawford has been named senior vice president in charge of advanced research and the scientific directorate and member of the research and innovation management committee, the French beauty giant said Monday.

When she joins the company on Oct. 1, she will also head up developing the scientific strategies supporting the firm’s sustainable innovation goals.

“We are delighted to welcome Martha Crawford, whose unique career, strong scientific expertise and profound knowledge of environmental and societal issues will further enable the group  to pursue its longstanding investment in cutting-edge science and further develop its commitment to sustainable innovation,” said Laurent Attal, executive vice president research and innovation at L’Oréal.

Crawford began working at nuclear power company Areva, as senior executive vice president for research and innovation, in 2011. Four years prior, she joined Air Liquide as vice president  for group research and development. Crawford also formerly worked at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where she ultimately became principal administrator.

Crawford succeeds Isabel Marey-Semper, who joined L’Oréal in January 2010 as director of research and innovation shared services. Marey-Semper “will soon be taking up new and important responsibilities in the group,” according to a company spokeswoman.
