The award is presented each year to an individual who has brought “extraordinary ingenuity, creativity, dedication and inner resources to bear not only to their company’s success but to the fragrance industry as a whole,” according to the foundation.

Jacobs, whose fragrance licensee is Coty Inc., launched his first scent in 2001 and has since gone on to have a number of successful fragrances including Marc Jacobs Men and Blush, both launched in 2003; Splash, a multi-scent lineup introduced in spring 2006; and Daisy Marc Jacobs, which hit counters in 2007 and was awarded a FiFi for Fragrance of the Year last year.

In other Fragrance Foundation news, the organization has also created a FiFi award called “Perfume Extraordinaire of the Year,” which will recognize a fragrance supply company as well as the perfumer or perfumers who blended the essential oil, or juice, of a fragrance, the foundation announced Monday.

The organization said every essential oil house that is a member of The Fragrance Foundation is eligible to submit an entry, as well as manufacturer members that employ in-house perfumers. Nonmembers are also eligible to submit an entry for a fee, the foundation added. Companies can only submit one entry, either masculine or feminine, that has been created and marketed in 2008, the foundation said.
