Marc Speichert Promoted to Global Role at L’Oréal

Effective immediately, Speichert will assume the role of cmo leader for international beauty conglomerate the L’Oréal Group.

Marc Speichert, L’Oréal USA’s chief marketing officer, is going global.

Effective immediately, Speichert will assume the role of cmo leader for international beauty conglomerate the L’Oréal Group. He will be replacing Marc Menesguen, who has taken on the worldwide position of president of the firm’s consumer products division.

The position, which had been run from L’Oréal’s Paris office, will now be handled out of New York City. According to L’Oréal executives, Speichert will travel extensively, meeting with cmo’s across the globe in his new position.

In his new post, Speichert will assume global leadership of L’Oréal’s cmo’s and will be charged with “accelerating the U.S. success model globally,” according to the company. He will also take the reins of each of L’Oréal’s geographic zones, manage the CMO Board — established in 2011 — and will oversee the company’s “talent investment plans,” including new media, consumer affairs and e-business. As global cmo leader, Speichert will continue to report to Frédéric Rozé, president and chief executive officer of L’Oréal Americas, and will simultaneously manage the CMO’s Americas organization based in New York.

Because Speichert is retaining the Americas Zone operational role in addition to his global post, he will work closely with other zone heads, but report to Rozé.

“Over the last three years, we have worked hard to create the cmo working model here in the U.S.,” Speichert told WWD. “The model has since been adapted by some of the L’Oréal subsidiaries and I look forward to accelerating the process in other countries.”

Speichert joined L’Oréal USA in 2010 as chief marketing officer, a new role for the company at the time, and during his tenure is credited with helping to leverage digital technologies to grow the business. Prior to L’Oréal, Speichert worked at Colgate-Palmolive in various marketing positions.
