The Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. said Thursday that it has named Susan Akkad senior vice president of corporate marketing, diversity, a new post.
Akkad, who is senior vice president of global communications and artist relations for MAC Cosmetics, will start her new role on Tuesday. She will report to Marianne Diorio, senior vice president of global communications.
“This new position personifies and solidifies the Estée Lauder Cos.’ vision to ramp up communications and resonate more with the diverse consumer,” said William Lauder, president and chief executive officer of the company, in a statement. “[Akkad’s] experience as a strategic global marketer, plus her proven ability to tap into social and cultural nuances, makes her the ideal choice to lead this effort.” In addition to his other roles, Lauder is chairman of the company’s diversity committee.
Diorio said Akkad will work in partnership with all of the company’s marketing and communications brand staffs to “increase relevancy to the diverse consumer.”
Akkad, who joined the Estée Lauder International public relations staff in 1986, also has been vice president of global treatment marketing for Clinique, vice president of marketing for Origins and a marketing executive at rival Lancôme.
