Prestige beauty sales rebounded with a vengeance this year, posting solid gains across all categories.

“With 18 months of consecutive monthly increases, prestige beauty is experiencing unprecedented growth,” says Karen Grant, vice president and senior global industry analyst of The NPD Group, who notes that new products and the classics are driving growth.

 

She calls fragrance the “turnaround” story of the year, says that makeup has held its own against encroaching competition from the mass market and exults skin care sales, noting that this year’s double-digit sales come on top of an 8 percent increase last year.

 

The numbers bode well for the crucial fourth quarter: “The outlook for yearend is promising,” says Grant, “and 2011 looks to be one of the most successful years in prestige beauty.”
