L’Oreal Announces Environmental Aims

In tandem with Earth Day Wednesday, L’Oréal announced Tuesday long-term green initiatives.

PARIS — In tandem with Earth Day Wednesday, L’Oréal announced Tuesday long-term green initiatives.

Among its aims, which are calculated on a like-for-like basis between 2005 and 2015, is to halve its greenhouse gas emissions. In 2005, its total carbon dioxide emissions were 230.3 million tons.

The French beauty giant also plans to cut in half its water use per unit of finished product, which in 2005 was 0.72 liters. Another goal is to halve its waste generated per unit of finished product, which was 32.2 grams in 2005.

The company stated, “These renewed goals reflect the group’s engagement in meeting its previously determined targets: Over the past year, L’Oréal has reduced total carbon dioxide emissions by 6.6 percent (by 11.5 percent since 2005), reduced its water use per finished product by 3.8 percent (by 13 percent since 2005) and reduced its waste per finished product by 0.5 percent (by 10.1 percent since 2005) while increasing its recycling rate to 95 percent.”
