Shopper: Madison Kempf, 19 Date/Time: 4.14.2011, 2:30 p.m. Store: CVS Location: 99 Greenwich Avenue What’s in Madison’s Bag: Madison Kempf, a 19-year-old art history student at NYU, was spotted picking up prescriptions and beauty essentials at the CVS near her parents’ home in Greenwich. “I go to school in New York City, but come back to Connecticut for dinner with my parents or to see friends,” says Kempf, a self-described “makeup-aholic” and budding world traveler. Although she tends to avoid drugstores for skin care, makeup and fragrances, Kempf, who has visited Monaco, Scotland, Turkey and Greece, relies on them for everyday supplies and travel-size items. “I buy most of my personal care items at drugstores,” says Kempf, whose favorite brands include Nars, Kiehl’s and Bumble and bumble. Kempf’s daily beauty regime includes face wash and eye cream morning and night, and black eyeliner and Nars bronzer before leaving the house. “I like stores like CVS because I don’t stay as long and am less likely to overspend,” says Kempf. “I can do some serious damage in Sephora.”
Shopper: Lisa Daniel, 34 Date/Time: 4.14.2011, 1:12 p.m. Store: Sephora Location: 75 Greenwich Avenue What’s in Lisa’s Bag: Mother of two Lisa Daniel took advantage of free time between carpool pickups to dash into Sephora. “I had a 20-percent-off coupon I’ve been meaning to use,” says Daniel, who, as a Sephora insider, is frequently sent coupons and promotional e-mails. Hailing from nearby Stamford, Daniel runs Privatestyles.com, an online clothing boutique. When it comes to beauty, she isn’t one to experiment much. “I know what I like,” she says. “I’m not someone who will try something I’ve never heard of.” Naming her favorite brands as Phyto, Clinique and Caudalíe, Daniel likes products that have pleasing textures and smells. “Sephora is one of my favorite stores because of the selection and service,” says Daniel, who was particularly taken with the sales associate who shade-matched her new Tarte Bronzer. “I love when a guy can recommend makeup based on what he’s wearing.” The bright “Glee”-inspired Sephora by OPI nail polish caught her eye, too. “My daughter would love it,” she says.
