“I first discovered L’Occitane’s Ultra Rich Shea Butter in a hotel on my honeymoon seven years ago,” says 35-year-old pharmacist and Mineola resident Nancy Prager, during a pre-work run to the Roosevelt Field Mall.

“Every time I smell it, it reminds me of Hawaii and of my husband.” Prager stopped in today to buy the lotion in its limited edition 16.9 oz. size, which L’Occitane only offers twice a year. “I’m hooked on their shea products,” she says. “They smell fresh, aren’t greasy and are very moisturizing.”

Prager, who works in a hospital, describes herself as a “loyal” but low-key beauty shopper, noting she will go out of her way to replace items that she loves. Prager counts sunscreen, Crème de la Mer, Kinerase eye cream, Lancôme mascara and Chanel foundation as her beauty staples for day, and MAC makeup and Prada fragrance for night. Because her hours at the hospital can run into the early mornings and late evenings, she’s drawn to products that hydrate and keep undereye puffiness at bay.

What’s in Tara’s Bag

Shopper: Tara Dalessandro, 32
Date/Time: 1.04.2012, 1:08 p.m.
Store: Macy’s
Location: 630 Old Country Road, Garden City, NY

On a frigid January day, stay-at-home mom Tara Dalessandro stopped by the Lancôme counter at her local Macy’s for a new foundation. “I love the way Lancôme products smell,” says the mother of three. Although she arrived with only a foundation in mind, Dalessandro, a native of nearby Westbury, N.Y., wound up also purchasing concealer, lip gloss and an antiaging serum that she was told would take years off her face.

At the counter, Dalessandro sat with a beauty adviser who cleaned her face and applied Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate. “I wasn’t planning on buying skin care, but I loved how it felt,” she says. “Also, they told me this was on The Dr. Oz Show, which helped sway me.”

Naming Chanel lip gloss, Artistry face wash and Pantene shampoo as favorites, Dalessandro says she is low maintenance. “In the morning I wash my face and rush to get the kids to school,” she says. “At night I use moisturizer.”
