Shopper: Phoebe Law

Date/Time: 8.31.2012, 2:15 p.m.

Store: L’Occitane

Location: 1 Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic City, N.J.

On vacation with her family, 24-year-old student Phoebe Law visited L’Occitane with her grandmother. “I saw a lot of people in the store,” says Law, “so I was wondering what all the hype was about.” Law and her grandmother left the store without purchasing anything, but 20 minutes later she returned. “This was my first time in L’Occitane and when I tested out the eye cream, I knew I wanted to come back,” says Law. “The price was fair, so it was well worth it.” Law, who usually uses Clinique skin care, wasn’t planning on buying anything else, but when shown some other products she quickly switched gears. “I prefer to see the products in person and try them on,” says Law. “Today, I felt a variety of textures and sprayed some of the fragrances. Since I was able to test it all, I was eager to purchase the products I liked best.”

Shopper: Bernadette Mercado

Date/Time: 8.31.2012, 1:00 p.m.

Store: The Body Shop

Location: 1 Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic City, N.J.

Labor Day weekend brought big savings for 54-year-old Bernadette Mercado. On her way to the beach, Mercado stopped into The Body Shop to restock her favorite Mango Body Butter. An employee explained the retailer’s current promotion: four body and/ or hair care items for $30. When Mercado learned her favorite Body Butter wasn’t

part of the deal, she quickly opted for some new products recommended by the salesperson. “They always tell you what’s good and what’s not,” said Mercado, ”so I figured I’d give her recommendations a try.” When paying, Mercado took out her Body Shop Loyalty card. Costing $10, it gives customers 10 percent off all purchases and enables them to earn reward points. Using a $15 credit she had accumulated, Mercado decided to buy her Mango Body Butter, too. “This is my all-time favorite,” she said. “I love the way it feels and how it makes my skin look.”
