When researchers at the University of Tromso, the world’s only university above the Polar Circle, noticed the seemingly ageless hands of Nordic salmon farm workers, they wondered why. “Salmon farming is a large industry in Norway,” says Ole Sandberg, founder of Aqua Skin Science. “With their hands in cold water for hours every day, fish farm workers have nearly perfect skin. We wanted to find out why.” Simultaneously, a trio of researchers were exploring the regenerative powers of pure Arctic salmon roe. Sandberg, who also created the luxury drinking water line Voss, connected the dots and immediately saw the opportunity for cosmetics application. The result is Freya+ Scandinavian Skin Science, an antiaging skin care line which contains a proprietary plasma complex of bio-marine proteins, peptides and salmon-derived, nano-encapsulated omega-3s to stimulate tissue repair. Introduced in January, distribution thus far is online at Freyaskincare.com. Prices range from $45 for a cleanser to $130 for a serum.
