London-based psychologist Linda Papadopoulos is out to shrink wrinkles. Rather than battling them with a battery of Botox-filled syringes, however, her armory includes the power of positive thought and mood-enhancing active skin care products. Her line, dubbed  PsyDerma, which bow ed on the U.K.’s QVC shopping channel in November, plays on the concept that zapping stress is the first step in an efficient skin care regimen.

“Everything from blushing when we’re shy to sweating when we’re anxious is our psychology being expressed through our skin,” says Papadopoulos, who has published a plethora of psychology papers and books. “The last time my skin was glowing was when I was happy.”

Since putting on a happy face can be a big ask first thing in the morning, Papadopoulos packed her line with nootropics, nutrients said to boost memory, reduce stress and help cognitive ability. The products also contain tyrosine, an amino acid involved in mood regulation and the alleviation of the physical symptoms of stress, as well as Phytokeratin, which stimulates epidermal cells and thus the production of mood-enhancing beta-endorphins.

“I recognize the need for the products to make people look better on the outside, as well,” says Papadopoulos. “It’s not about fixing problems, but about enhancing your skin. To wit, her top treatment tip for her customers is to find two things about their faces that they love while applying her products. As she counsels, “Having a happy face is perhaps better than having a perfect face.”
