The MAGIC Marketplace runs from Aug. 22 to 24, with the Sourcing in the Americas Summit opening on Aug. 21. WWDMagic is concentrated at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Here are some key points of reference to make the most of the show.


CHINA SYNDROME

With a fashion market that’s expected to reach $200 billion by 2020, according to The Boston Consulting Group, everyone’s looking to enter China. But prospering in the world’s most populous nation isn’t easy.
Jeffry Aronsson, founder and chief executive officer of the consultancy Aronsson Group; Julia Hughes, president of textile and apparel importer organization USA-ITA; and Chen Zhirong, vice director of CCCT, will outline success strategies for expanding into China and the many challenges associated with navigating the business landscape in the populous country during a seminar entitled Developing Your Business in the Fast-Growing Chinese Fashion Retail Market.

The seminar will be held on Aug. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

STARRING AVRIL

A pop princess is lending WWDMAGIC and Project some star wattage. “Sk8ter Boi” singer Avril Lavigne will be at WWD Magic from Aug. 22 to 24 to promote her juniors brand Abbey Dawn, which is the nickname her father gave her as a youngster.

After starting exclusively with Kohl’s in 2008, the brand last year moved on and now sells its T-shirts, tanks, hoodies, caps and more, ranging mainly from $17.50 to $60 at boutiques across the country and world.
