• VARVATOS RENOVATES: John Varvatos has closed its SoHo store in Manhattan for two weeks of renovations that will result in a lower level dedicated to tailored clothing. In addition, a shop-in-shop inspired by the designer’s 315 Bowery store (located at the former CBGB site),has opened at Holt Renfrew in Montreal. Another is set to open at Bloomingdale’s 59th Street in several weeks. It will carry Star USA product only as John Varvatos is creating a new permanent space for its signature collection on Bloomingdale’s designer floor.
• CLASSROOM MENTOR: Paul Olszewski, award-winning director of windows at Macy’s, will be an adjunct professor in the visual merchandising department of LIM — The College for the Business of Fashion, in New York. He will continue at Macy’s, as well. Olszewski’s work, which includes the 2008 Macy’s Herald Square windows, themed “Believe,” has been widely featured on TV and in print. He has won industry awards for his visual merchandising and holiday store windows. Before joining Macy’s, Olszewski was with Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.
