A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz is diving into swimwear for resort 2009.
The Los Angeles-based contemporary label signed a licensing agreement for swimwear with BlueWaterDesignGroup, a division of Apparel Ventures Inc., which also manufactures swim for Trina Turk and Rampage.
"I've been anxious to do swim for a while, but needed to find the right partnership," said design director Allen Schwartz. "[BlueWaterDesignGroup] really understands the culture of A.B.S.: bringing great new trends to the market at affordable prices. The swim line will represent that same on-trend sensibility."
Debuting at the SAF Miami Swim Show July 19-22, the collection will retail from $110 and include swimsuits, cover-ups and sundresses. Like the clothing, A.B.S.'s swimwear will feature animal prints, vivid colors and embellishment. Schwartz said he hopes all 600-plus doors that carry the core line will pick up swimwear.
Swim is just the latest category for the estimated $50 million brand. A.B.S. recently launched jewelry with licensee Carolee, and is slated to launch outerwear, handbags and eyewear this year. Schwartz said if he finds the right partners, he would be interested in expanding into fragrance, children's and men's.
