PARIS — Already kicking his business into a higher gear under PPR ownership, Hussein Chalayan said Monday that he added a pre-collection for spring 2009 retailing, and made his first steps into footwear.

The pre-collection of ready-to-wear, plus a limited selection of shoes, was unveiled over the weekend in Milan and will be sold there through July 20.

Chalayan said his expanded rtw line also would be produced and distributed within PPR's supplier network. Meanwhile, a more extensive footwear collection is being readied for the fall-winter 2009 season.

Activewear giant Puma, which acquired Chalayan earlier this year and named him Puma's creative director, is 62.1 percent owned by PPR. In May, Puma named Giorgio Belloli as chief executive officer of Chalayan's London-based fashion firm.
