Chico’s Posts Q4 Loss

The retailer saw declines in sales across all three businesses.

Chico’s FAS Inc. posted a fourth-quarter loss, and saw declines in sales across all three businesses.

For the three months ended Feb. 1, the loss was $348,000, or 0 cents a diluted share, against net income of $31.5 million, or 19 cents, a year ago.

The company posted a decline of 6.4 percent in total net sales to $610.2 million from $651.9 million. The company operates three nameplates, each of which saw sales declines in the quarter.  For the core Chico’s/Soma Intimates division, sales fell 5.3 percent to $374.9 million; White House| Black Market sales decreased 4.9 percent to $215.3 million, and Boston Proper sales dropped 32.6 percent to $20 million.

The company operated 1,472 stores at the end of the quarter in the U.S. and Canada.
