Chico’s FAS Inc. on Thursday named Cynthia Murray as brand president, quickly filling a post that was vacated last week by Michele Cloutier, who resigned.

Murray will assume her new role on Feb. 23 and report to David Dyer, president and chief executive officer of Chico’s.
Murray, who has nearly 30 years of retail experience, spent the last five years at Stage Stores, most recently as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. Prior to Stage, she held positions at Talbots, Saks Fifth Avenue/Saks Off Fifth and Charming Shoppes.
“Cinny is an inspiring leader with a strong merchandising, visual and strategic planning background,” said Dyer. “We expect that her creative insight and vision will be a key to helping us return Chico’s” to its former successful position in the women’s specialty area.
Chico’s last week revealed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that Cloutier had resigned. Her departure was said to be a result of Chico’s transition under new ceo Dyer. Separately, the company said last week that it would cut about 180 jobs at its headquarters, about 11 percent, and possibly close as many as 25 stores out of its base of 1,076 units.
