PARIS — French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s Pop Art-inspired fashion business has been rescued by Sweden’s Atlas Design Group.
Atlas, which produces and distributes accessories, shirts and underwear and has a major licensing deal with Tiger of Sweden, has acquired the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Group from the administrators of its former owner, Britain’s Marchpole Holdings plc, which fell victim to the economic crisis earlier this month. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Atlas chief executive officer Allan Ladow said the time was ideal to find brands with a strong history that will ride out the recession. Castelbajac, which counts six freestanding stores, including London and Paris, becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Design, which is based in Gothenburg.
"I was driving back on Saturday afternoon from the beach, and I just saw this sign saying 'Skydiving for $95.' And I was like, I can't not sky dive for $95," says Tom Bateman about a moment in Hawaii while shooting "Snatched." #wwdeye (📷: @vsteves; Interview by @ktauer; Styled by @thealexbadia)
