AMERICAN IN PARIS: California is giving finicky French fashionistas a good-old taste of U.S. style via American Apparel. After putting its stamp on Germany and England last year, the Los Angeles-based manufacturer and retailer of T-shirts and other activewear opened its first French boutique, in Paris, earlier this month. The 1,600-square-foot shop on Place du  Marché-Saint-Honoré carries T-shirts in a multitude of colors and shapes, apparel and accessories for the entire family. Even French poodles can get dressed with their very own colorful collection.

ALPINE SLIDE: Rossignol SA, the French ski firm, last week reported a 0.5 percent slide in nine-month sales to 394.2 million euros, or $508.5 million at current exchange, for the period ended Dec. 31. At constant exchange, sales rose 2.2 percent to 404.9 million euros, or $522.3 million. Textiles and accessories for the group rose 8.1 percent to 33.4 million euros, or $43.1 million, in the nine months. Looking ahead, Rossignol expects full-year sales to rise 4 percent.
