LONDON — European stock markets were broadly flat in mid-morning trading on Friday.
The DAX in Frankfurt edged up 0.5 percent to 8,199.56 percent. The FTSE 100 in London gained 0.3 percent to 6,563.14, and the CAC 40 in Paris advanced 0.1 percent to 3,871.69.
The FTSE MIB in Milan was down 0.4 percent to 15,617.71.
The euro traded at $1.31 against the dollar, while the pound fetched $1.51 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.05 at 10:00 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks made modest gains, with the morning's biggest risers including Safilo Group, up 1.4 percent to 16.30 euros. Burberry Group increased 0.9 percent to 15.38 pounds. Geox advanced 0.7 percent to 1.92 euros, while and Metro AG rose 0.9 percent to 25.45 euros.
Among the few stocks that lost ground were Yoox, down 0.7 percent to 19.68 euros, and Gemfields, which retreated 0.6 percent to 0.20 pounds.
