European Markets Flat

Retail and luxury stocks put on a mixed show.

LONDON — Stock markets were broadly flat in mid-morning trading today.


The FTSE 100 in London and the CAC 40 in Paris each made marginal gains, with the French market up 0.7 percent to 3,984.94 points and the British market advancing 0.1 percent to 6,596.90.


The DAX in Frankfurt and the FTSE MIB in Milan were each down 0.1 percent to 8,294.30 and 16,419.15, respectively.


The euro traded at $1.32 against the dollar, while the pound fetched $1.53, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.07 at 10:40 a.m. CET.


Retail and luxury stocks put on a mixed show, with the morning’s biggest gainers including LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, up 4.6 percent to 136.35 euros despite a 6.2 percent fall in net profits in the first half.


Yoox.com increased 1.4 percent to 19.47 euros, while Ferragamo advanced 1.1 percent to 25.75 euros. Inditex rose 1 percent to 100.20 euros, while Hugo Boss was up 1.1 percent to 87.09 euros.


Among the stocks that lost ground were the Swatch Group, down 1.1 percent to 95.45 Swiss francs.
