LONDON — European stock markets closed on a down note on Friday, with the exception of the FTSE 100 in London, which edged up 0.01 percent to 6,866.05.
The FTSE MIB in Milan sank 1.5 percent to 21,559.19, while the CAC 40 in Paris was down 0.5 percent to 4,468.98.
The DAX in Frankfurt fell 0.2 percent to 10,009.08.
The euro traded at $1.36 against the dollar, while the pound fetched $1.72, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.12.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the day’s biggest risers including Mysale.com, 3.6 percent to 2.10 pounds; Italia Independent Group, 2 percent to 30.80 euros; and Yoox Group, 2.8 percent to 20.27 euros.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Metro AG, 1.8 percent to 32.55 euros; French Connection Group, 2.5 percent to 0.69 pounds; Burberry Group, 1 percent to 14.58 pounds; and Asos.com, 1.4 percent to 31.86 pounds.
