LONDON — European stock markets edged down in mid-morning trading on Friday.

The DAX in Frankfurt fell 0.3 percent to 8,342.52; the CAC 40 in Paris 0.2 percent to 3,971.00; and the FSTE 100 and the FTSE MIB in Milan 0.1 percent, to 6,681.14 and to 17,526.86 respectively.

The euro traded at $1.29 against the dollar, while the pound fetched $1.52, and the Swiss franc traded at $1.04 at 11:00 a.m. CET.

Retail and luxury stocks put on a mixed show, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Aeffe, which advanced 2.3 percent to 0.61 euros; Metro AG, 0.9 percent to 24.65 euros; and Burberry Group, 0.9 percent to 14.63 pounds.

Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Beiersdorf AG, down 1.4 percent to 70.63 euros; Gemfields, 5.1 percent to 0.21 pounds. Unilever and L'Oréal both fell 1.5 percent, to 32.34 euros and to 134.60 euros respectively.
