European Stock Markets Edge Up in Mid-Morning

Retail and luxury stocks traded mostly higher.

LONDON — European stock markets edged up in mid-morning trading on Monday, with the exception of the FTSE MIB in Milan, which was down.

The Italian market eased 0.1 percent to 16,402.33, while the DAX in Paris advanced 0.9 percent to 8,320.26, and the CAC 40 in Paris was up 0.5 percent to 3,989.40. The FTSE 100 in London rose 0.2 percent to 6,603.98.

The euro traded at $1.33 against the dollar, while the pound fetched $1.54 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.08 at 9:55 am CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were mostly on the upswing, with the day’s biggest gainers including Gemfields, up 2.7 percent to 0.22 pounds; Burberry Group, up 1.6 percent to 15.39 pounds; Inditex, up 1.6 percent to 101.45 euros; Mulberry Group, up 4.2 percent to 10.05 pounds; and LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, up 1.5 percent to 137.10 euros.
