LONDON — European stock markets made gains in mid-morning trading on Friday, with Milan’s FTSE MIB leading the rise.

The Italian market advanced 1.2 percent to 17,297.54; the CAC 40 in Paris, 0.6 percent to 3,950.76; the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.5 percent to 8,304.34; and the FTSE 100 in London, 0.3 percent to 6,614.45.        

The euro traded at $1.31 against the dollar, while the pound fetched $1.55, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.07 at 11:45 am CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were mostly on the uptick, with the day’s biggest gainers including Asos.com, up 2.7 percent to 37.08 pounds; Inditex, 2 percent to 104 euros; Luxottica Group, 1.5 percent to 40.80 euros; and Brunello Cucinelli, 1.4 percent to 16.94 euros.
