- CHICO'S PICKS CHAIRMAN: Chico's FAS Inc. has named president and chief executive officer Scott A. Edmonds to serve in the additional position of chairman of the board, replacing Michael Weiss, who resigned after his appointment as ceo of Express. Chico's board also voted to appoint Ross Roeder, one of the company's seven independent directors, as lead director and reduce the number of board seats to nine from 10. Chico's, a specialty retailer of private label apparel, operates 976 women's specialty stores in 48 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, operating under the Chico's, White House|Black Market and Soma Intimates store names.
- LEAD RECALLS: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled two kinds of Chinese-made jewelry for children that were found to contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested. About 23,500 Toby & Me jewelry sets imported by Toby N.Y.C. were recalled, expanding on an Aug. 22 recall of 14,000 jewelry sets. The sets were sold at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, A.J. Wright, Cracker Barrel and ShopKo from August 2006 to August 2007. The commission also recalled about 850 children's necklaces imported by Rhode Island Novelty that were sold through various outlets from November 2006 through May.
