TOKYO — Japanese retailers saw mostly lower sales in July, as seasonal clearance sales of spring and summer merchandise lured customers into stores, while unpredictable weather also kept them away in some cases.

Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. said Monday that same-store sales at its Uniqlo stores in Japan fell 4.8 percent compared with the same month last year. Customer numbers dropped 12 percent.
