NEW YORK — Jones Apparel Group Inc. has promoted Jay Friedman to chief executive officer of company-owned retail footwear and apparel. He was previously president, company-owned retail footwear and apparel at the firm.

Friedman joined Jones in April 2006 as president, wholesale footwear, where he held responsibility for the Easy Spirit, Enzo Angiolini, Circa Joan & David and Jones’ children’s brands. Earlier, he was chief operating officer and president of wholesale and served on the board of Aigner Group Inc. Friedman has also been U.S. president of Foot Locker.
Friedman will continue to report to Andrew Cohen, ceo, footwear, accessories and retail at Jones.
In other Jones news, the firm has changed the domain name of its corporate Web site to jonesapparel.com. The former name, jny.com, will become the new Jones New York e-commerce site which will launch in the fall. The company is also working on e-commerce for the Anne Klein brand, anneklein.com, which is planned for a launch early next year.
