Lucky Brand Jeans has promoted Liz Munoz to the post of president.

Most recently senior vice president of merchandising and design at Lucky and president of C&C California, Munoz joined Lucky Brand in 1998 as a designer and has played a major part in the brand's growth since.

In 1999, Munoz was appointed vice president of merchandising; in 2001, she was promoted to senior vice president of merchandising, and in 2004, she added design to her responsibilities. Prior to joining Lucky Brand, she worked for Lucky co-founder Gene Montesano at Bongo Jeans from 1987 to 1997. Munoz will continue to work closely with Montesano and co-founder Barry Perlman.

Paul Price, who continues as executive vice president, will report to Munoz.

Liz Claiborne Inc. acquired Lucky in 1999, and Lucky is one of its "power brands." Based in Vernon, Calif., Munoz reports to Jill Granoff, Claiborne group president.

"Liz is the right person who can really accelerate the momentum at Lucky Brand Jeans," Granoff said. "A lot of the timing of the promotion has to do with the strategy of Liz Claiborne overall to accelerate the growth of proven winners, like Lucky, by putting additional resources and management attention on the brand."

Munoz will relinquish her role of president of C&C California — a post she assumed last year — as she expands her responsibilities at Lucky. Stephen Cox, vice president and general manager of C&C California, will assume her responsibilities and will report directly to Granoff, who said there would be additional hires at Lucky.

Lucky Brand Jeans has more than 150 stores worldwide, and the collections are carried at better department and specialty stores and at luckybrandjeans.com. In the next few years, Claiborne plans to roll out another 100 or so Lucky Brand stores. Lucky Brand sales climbed 37 percent last year.
