NEW YORK -- Monsanto Co. said Thursday it will increase prices 7 to 9 percent on ecru (undyed) Acrilan acrylic fibers used in apparel, industrial and home furnishings applications. The increase is effective with shipments beginning Jan. 1, 1995. The price increase will not affect dyed Acrilan fibers.

Increasing raw materials costs, along with a strong demand for acrylic fibers and rising labor costs, were the primary reasons for the increase, said a Monsanto spokesman. Monsanto's last acrylic price increase came in 1990.

Monsanto's acrylic price hike comes on the heels of Cytec Industries' announcement Wednesday that it is raising prices 2 to 3 percent on its Creslan acrylic fibers for the pile, knitwear and hosiery markets, beginning with shipments of Oct. 1.
