PARIS — French retail-to-luxury firm PPR has started talks with potential buyers for its Conforama furniture chain, including South African holding company Steinhoff International Holdings Ltd., a PPR spokeswoman said.

Market sources said last month that private equity fund Permira, which owns Valentino, was also interested.

PPR, which is looking to sell its retail assets — including Conforama and book, music and electronics retailer Fnac — has hired Rothschild to explore financing options with banks for potential buyers.

Officials at Steinhoff were not immediately available for comment.
