NEW YORK — Retail stocks got a lift in the afternoon trading session as the Dow Jones Industrial rallied following several acquisitions and corporate profit reports from other sectors.
The Dow was up over 129 points to 10,997.42 this afternoon while the S&P Retail Index gained 2.4 percent to 427.65. Retail stocks had increases of between 2 and 5 percent. For example, AnnTaylor Stores rose 2.3 percent to $40.73 in the afternoon session while Bon-Ton Stores gained 6.9 percent to $24.90 and Nordstrom Inc. climbed 2.3 percent to $33.19.
