Called Takada by Kenzo Takada (formerly Gokan Kobo), the brand, which launched in 2004, incorporated a range of home accessories, from cutlery and china to linens and chairs. The designer recently added swimwear to the collection and teamed up with French mail-order giant 3 Suisses to design an affordable Gokan Kobo line.
According to a Kenzo Takada spokeswomen, last August the designer took on a new financial partner who did not provide the necessary funding, causing the Paris Commercial Court to liquidate the business, effective Dec. 11.
"Despite all our combined efforts, we were unable to find a substitute partner," said Takada in a statement.
The Japanese designer, who sold his namesake house to LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton in 1993, will pursue personal projects, such as his collaboration with Baccarat or customized carpet maker Tai Ping. He's also been tapped for a project with a major hotel chain, but details were not disclosed.
