TOKYO―Uniqlo’s same-store sales for March dropped by 16.4 percent compared to the same period last year, the chain’s corporate parent Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. said Friday.
The Japanese retailer blamed unseasonably cold weather for the low sales of its spring collection. The launch of the same collection boosted same-store sales by 1.8 percent in February. Depleted stocks of winter items led to a 7.2 percent drop in January. The monthly sales figures account only for Uniqlo’s operations in Japan.
Uniqlo is now operating a network of 779 stores across Japan, plus an increasing number of international outlets. The retailer’s first store in Russia opens Friday in Moscow’s top shopping center, Atrium.
