NEW YORK — The Vendors Coalition for Equitable Retailer Practices is sending out a questionnaire on chargeback practices to its membership so the group can do an analysis of problem areas and make the appropriate recommendations to eliminate unfairness in retailer-vendor relations.

Donald Kreindler, an attorney at Phillips Nizer, said the questionnaire was prepared with the help of consulting firm Marketing Management Group Inc. Allan Ellinger, a partner at MMG, has been instrumental in the coalition's formation.

The questionnaire breaks down the questions into sections by retailer, sector and category, to name a few. The goal is to pinpoint specific chargeback issues. "I strongly encourage all vendors to participate and get the questionnaire and fill it out on an anonymous basis. Unless a broad segment of the industry responds, the figures that we get will not be meaningful," Kreindler said.

The law firm, which also was involved in the spearheading of VCERP, has set up an e-mail address for the group at vendorscoalition@phillipsnizer.com, Kreindler said.

A meeting for the steering committee is set for Oct. 5, and the coalition's next general meeting is Nov. 9.
