TOKYO -- Wacoal Corp. reported net earnings for the year ended March 31 rose 8.5 percent, to $71.8 million (7.23 billion yen) at current exchange rates, although sales dipped 1.8 percent, to $1.5 billion (150.8 billion yen).

A year earlier, the innerwear maker posted net earnings of 6.67 billion yen on sales of 153.58 billion yen.

Earnings before taxes fell 13 percent, to $123 million (12.3 billion yen), against 14.1 billion yen in the prior year.

In addition to intimate apparel, Wacoal produces outerwear and children's wear.
