The Warnaco Group Inc. has named Michael Prendergast president of its men’s Chaps business, succeeding David Cunningham, who was promoted to president of Warnaco’s Calvin Klein Jeans division in August. Prendergast comes to Chaps from ROC Apparel LLC, where he was group president of the Rocawear brand. Previously, he was senior vice president of men’s sales, planning and retail development at Tommy Hilfiger.

His first day in his new role at Chaps will be Nov. 2, reporting to Frank Tworecke, group president of sportswear at Warnaco.

“Michael has been successful in his previous jobs from an operating perspective, and he’s also a good merchant,” said Tworecke. “We think he understands the positioning of the Chaps brand and will be able to build on its success over time.”

Warnaco licenses the men’s Chaps sportswear business from Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. Chaps is distributed in the department store and midtier channel, including Kohl’s, Carson Pirie Scott, Belk and Stage Stores, among other retailers.

In the most recent quarter ended July 4, Warnaco’s Chaps revenue increased 1.4 percent to $43 million. In the first half of the fiscal year, revenue declined 2.5 percent to $80.1 million.
