- SENATE OVERRIDES FARM BILL VETO: The Senate voted 82-13 on Thursday to override President Bush's veto of a $300 billion farm bill. The House voted to override the veto Wednesday night. Most of the bill, which will fund farm, nutrition and conservation programs for five years, was enacted into law after the override in Congress. However, because of a printing error, a section of the bill dealing with international food aid and trade assistance development that was inadvertently deleted was left in limbo. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) said Congress will work to approve the deleted section soon. Trade provisions for apparel importers and domestic textile producers enacted into law include a two-year extension of a preference program for Caribbean countries and expanded benefits for Haiti.
