Michael Hanson Takes J.C. Penney Govt. Relations Post

He was previously with C2 consulting group.

WASHINGTON — Michael Hanson has joined J.C. Penney Co. Inc. as vice president of government relations.

Hanson, most recently a partner with C2 Group, a government affairs consulting firm based here, will continue to work from the nation’s capital for J.C. Penney. He will also spend time at the company’s corporate headquarters in Plano, Tex., where he will work with each department to develop legislative positions on policy issues affecting the company.

His primary role will be to lobby and advocate on a wide range of federal and state policies, including international trade, tax reform and labor and financial regulations that impact the company.

Prior to joining C2 in 2002, he spent 10 years on Capitol Hill in the office of Rep. Sam Johnson (R., Tex.), including four years as the congressman’s chief of staff.

J.C. Penney said Hanson brings 20 years of government affairs experience to the job, including previously providing strategic advice and solutions for Fortune 500 companies, associations and nonprofits on issues related to health care, taxes, energy and transportation, among other areas.

Hanson reports to Janet Dhillon, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at J.C. Penney.
