LOS ANGELES — After more than three months of negotiations, a key labor contract covering the West Coast ports is one step closer to completion.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association said late Tuesday that they have reached a tentative agreement on health benefits. They both declined to discuss the terms as negotiations continue for the new contract set to replace the previous six-year agreement that expired on July 1.
