Bebe Looks for New Chief

First-quarter sales fall 9.4 percent.

Bebe Stores Inc. is on the hunt for a new chief executive officer.

The specialty retailer said today it had hired Russell Reynolds Associates to recruit a new ceo and that the search “represents the next chapter in the company’s continuing evolution to a global, multi-brand, omni-channel contemporary lifestyle company.”

Bebe hopes to find a new chief by the end of this year.

The statement made no mention of Manny Mashouf, 74, chairman and ceo, and the company could not immediately be reached for comment. There have been other changes in Bebe’s executive ranks recently. Emilia Fabricant resigned for personal reasons as president of the firm in August.

Separately, the 250-door chain said its sales for the first quarter ended Sept. 29 fell 9.4 percent to $105.1 million as comparable-store sales fell 8.7 percent.
