NEW YORK — Joshua Schulman has begun reshaping the team at Bergdorf Goodman by making his first senior-level appointments.
Schulman, who became president of Bergdorf’s in May, on Tuesday named Tracy Margolies senior vice president and general merchandise manager for handbags, women’s shoes, beauty and 5F contemporary ready-to-wear, sportswear and accessories.
He also promoted Elizabeth Hui von der Goltz to senior vice president and general merchandise manager for fine apparel (couture, advanced designer and evening); designer sportswear; bridal; coats; lingerie; swim, and jewelry. John Capizzi has joined Bergdorf’s as vice president and general manager for the women’s and men’s stores.
The changes are due to three recent departures and a desire by Schulman to reorganize management responsibilities to enhance certain categories. The store’s top merchant, Ginny Hershey-Lambert, who was executive vice president of merchandising, left in September. More recently, Aja Passero, a senior vice president and general merchandise manager, left the store. To some extent, Margolies and Hui von der Goltz fill the void left by Hershey-Lambert and Passero.
Margolies rejoins Bergdorf’s from Saks Fifth Avenue, where she was vice president and divisional merchandise manager for women’s shoes since 2005. She started her career at Bergdorf’s in 1996 and rose to vice president and divisional merchandise manager of 5F contemporary sportswear. Hui von der Goltz has been with Bergdorf’s since 2000, last serving as vice president and divisional merchandise manager for couture and advanced designer collections. Earlier in her career, she worked at Barneys New York and Henri Bendel.
Capizzi succeeds Bill Brobston, who was senior vice president and general manager in charge of the operations of both Bergdorf’s women’s and men’s stores, until retiring in October. Capizzi was vice president and general manager of the Neiman Marcus store in San Francisco, and has held similar positions at other Neiman’s stores.
The three executives report to Schulman. “They have a proven track record in luxury,” Schulman said. “Tracy and Elizabeth have a perfect blend of merchandising expertise, business acumen and drive for success, while John brings a deep focus on delivering exceptional customer service and developing high-performing teams.” Further changes in the senior team at Bergdorf’s are likely.

For @massimogiorgetti of @msgm, the Nineties are his favorite decade. “They had a huge impact on my personal growth. What I like of the Nineties is that they are not so precise in terms of style as other decades…there was actually a bit of everything,” he said. “Personally I believe the Eighties have been the richest and more vivacious period for international fashion,” Giorgio Armani said when asked what his favorite decade of fashion is. It was a moment of disruption and experimentation and only thinking back to the first years of that decade is always an emotion for me, for what they have meant to me and my work.” The influence is clear in @giorgioarmani spring 2018 collection, pictured here, which was full of bright colors and unexpected prints.
