LONDON — Christopher Bailey has been appointed as chief creative and chief executive officer of Burberry and a director of the company, Burberry said Thursday.
Burberry said in October that Bailey, 42, would take on the ceo role alongside his chief creative officer role, following Angela Ahrendts’ departure as ceo. Ahrendts left the company to join Apple as senior vice president of retail and online stores, and stepped down from her role as Burberry ceo and resigned her directorship there April 30.
Burberry has described Bailey’s new role as combining his existing chief creative officer position “with overall responsibility for creating and delivering the next chapter in Burberry’s global vision and business strategy.” Bailey joined Burberry as design director in May 2001, and was named to the newly created position of chief creative officer in November 2009.
“I was touched by the fact that she lost her father, really before his time, and it was a real shock. She had two young children, she was married and she was expecting that she would have her own life for a good 25 years,” said Claire Foy about playing a young Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown. “It transcends the genre that is you think of a sci-fi show — you don’t expect it to be so profound or emotionally riveting,” Evan Rachel Wood told WWD of her Emmy nominated role in Westworld. styled by @samanthamcmillen_stylist 📸 @emmanmontalvan #emmys2017 #wwdeye
