NEW YORK — Vera Wang has a new recruit: Constance Darrow has been named president of creative direction.

In this newly created role, Darrow will oversee the design studio and all fashion product development, as well as the retail development and management of the Vera Wang freestanding boutiques. She reports directly to Wang.
“We are fortunate to have such a talented and accomplished executive joining our company at this significant juncture,” Wang said.
Darrow is best known for heading Prada’s U.S. arm as president, a post she left in 2006. She could not be reached for comment Monday.
Prior to Prada, Darrow was senior vice president and general merchandise manager of women’s apparel at Barneys New York. She joined the retailer in 1984 and is said to have been the first buyer to have introduced Prada to the U.S. in 1989. In late 1993, Darrow joined Prada.
In recent seasons, Wang and her executive team have been quite vocal about the evolution of the designer’s ready-to-wear, as well as the strength of the Lavender label. Susan Sokol maintains her role as president of sales for ready-to-wear and Lavender label, and Laura Lee Miller remains president of licensing.
