Dick Lynch, former president and chief operating officer of The Sports Authority, has joined the SD Retail Consulting unit of Hilco Trading LLC as senior vice president of merchandising and strategy.
In the new post at SD, Lynch will focus on improving clients’ process, organization and technology in the areas of merchandising and inventory.
Lynch was among the founding managers of Sports Authority, originally serving as vice president and chief financial officer and being promoted to president and chief operating officer in 1996. His retail experience includes stints as interim chief executive officer of Sur La Table and ceo of Hechinger following its bankruptcy.
He and Antony Karabus, president of SD Retail Consulting, previously worked together at Karabus Management, the Toronto-based retail consulting company operated by Karabus in Toronto prior to its 2008 acquisition by PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada. At SD, he reports to Farla Efros, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
“Dick has an impressive track record of solving complex retail issues, having played a key role in successfully enhancing sales and margins, improving field and merchandising effectiveness and reducing the cost structure for numerous retail chains,” Karabus said.
