Farla Efros has joined the SD Retail Consulting unit of Hilco Trading LLC in the new post of executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Her addition to the SD team follows the appointment last month of Antony Karabus as president of SD. Efros will head SD’s merchandising and strategy practice and report to Karabus.
Efros was most recently executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of Office Depot, where she was responsible for transforming the merchandising operations of its 1,170 locations across the U.S. Prior to joining Office Depot, she was with Karabus Management as senior vice president of performance improvement and stayed on following its sale in 2008 to PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada. Earlier, she spent 10 years at The Partnering Group Inc. Her clients and projects span both broadlines and specialty retailers in a variety of sectors, including apparel, drug and home furnishings.
Staffed by more than 30 retail specialists, SD provides operational, merchandising and other counseling to retailers in a broad range of formats, channels and sectors. Jeffrey Hecktman, chairman and chief executive officer of Hilco, told WWD last month that the company intended to add to the advisory ranks within the SD unit.
Hilco is headquartered in Northbrook, Ill., with offices throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. In addition to turnaround, liquidation and investment activities, its advisory services cover inventory, real estate, accounts receivable and intellectual property. Equity investments include Halston, Caribbean Joe, Ellen Tracy, the Miss America Organization and, more recently, U.K. entertainment retailer HMV.
