BERLIN — Ronald Van der Vis has resigned as executive director and group chief executive officer of Esprit for personal reasons, the company said. This is effective on or before July 1, 2013, in accordance with Van der Vis’ service contract.
Van der Vis was named ceo of the Hong-Kong listed company in 2009 and oversaw a broad transformation plan. Esprit said the company will continue to execute the plan as conceived and as approved by the board.
In an official statement released from China Tuesday, Esprit said Van der Vis’ resignation involved no disagreement with the board, “and there is no matter that needs to be brought to the attention of the shareholders of the company in relation to his resignation.”
Esprit has been battling declining sales and market share in its major markets.
Remaining on the board are Thomas Tang Wing Yung, group chief financial officer and executive director; Jürgen Alfred Rudolf Friedrich, non-executive director; Hans-Joachim Korber, chairman; Paul Cheng Ming Fun, deputy chairman, and Alexander Reid Hamilton and Raymond Or Ching Fai as independent non-executive directors. Responsible for design is Melody Harris-Jensbach, chief product and design officer.
